Frequently Asked Questions
What is NCPT ?
NCPT = Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher It’s administered by the NPCP (National Pilates Certification Program) and is the only nationally accredited Pilates certification exam in the U.S.
What does “comprehensive” mean?
In Pilates education, “comprehensive” means training across all major Pilates apparatus and disciplines, combined with required hours in education, observation, practice teaching, and supervised student teaching.
The Pilates Club Pro Method® is considered comprehensive because it includes:
• Mat Pilates
• Reformer
• Cadillac / Tower
• Wunda Chair
• Functional anatomy & biomechanics
• Classical Pilates principles and repertoire
• Contemporary movement science and programming
• Observation, practice teaching, and supervised teaching hours
• Written and practical assessments
This depth of training prepares instructors to teach both private sessions and group classes safely and effectively.
How does being comprehensive relate to the national exam (NCPT®)?
The NCPT® (Nationally Certified Pilates Teacher) exam requires applicants to complete a comprehensive Pilates education program before they are eligible to sit for the exam.
Because The Pilates Club Pro Method® is a comprehensive program, graduates:
• Complete education hours aligned with NPCP eligibility requirements
• Gain exposure to the full Pilates apparatus and teaching methodologies
• Are prepared academically and practically to apply for and sit for the NCPT® exam
In short:
Comprehensive training is the pathway that makes national certification possible.
⸻
Plain-English Version (Optional Add-On)
“Comprehensive means you’re trained in the full Pilates system—not just one piece of it—so you can teach confidently, professionally, and pursue national certification.”
Can I teach after completing the program?
Yes. Graduates earn Certification in The Pilates Club Pro Method® and may teach Pilates using our method while pursuing the NCPT® credential, if desired.
With approval, students may complete student teaching hours at The Pilates Club studios or at approved local Pilates studios, and these hours count toward comprehensive training requirements.
Is this program online or in person?
The program is primarily online-based. In-person components include observation, practice teaching, and supervised student teaching hours, which may be completed at The Pilates Club studios or at approved
local Pilates studios.
What is included in the online self-study education?
Online self-study includes digital written manuals, online quizzes with knowledge checks approximately every five exercises, module-based final exams, anatomy and movement science exams, and integrated teaching methodology and programming education. Optional printed workbooks are available for purchase but are not required.
Do observation hours have to be separate from taking classes?
No. Taking classes absolutely counts toward your hours and is strongly encouraged. Experiencing the work in your own body, observing instructors in real time, and feeling how exercises are taught is one of the most effective ways to learn Pilates.
Where can I complete my observation hours?
Observation hours may be completed at The Pilates Club studios or at a local Pilates studio approved by The Pilates Club Pro Method®.
How do I complete my student teaching hours once I finish the curriculum?
Once the curriculum is completed, students move into student teaching hours. Student teaching can be completed at approved Pilates studios, including The Pilates Club locations or other local studios that meet the program requirements. Guidance and approval will be provided to ensure hours are completed correctly.
Are there any prerequisites for enrollment?
Yes. Mat Pilates certification is the prerequisite for all apparatus-based Pilates education.
Students must complete Mat Pilates certification before progressing into:
• Reformer
• Cadillac / Tower
• Wunda Chair
This ensures a strong foundational understanding of Pilates principles, movement patterns, and teaching fundamentals before advancing to apparatus training.
What’s the best way to approach my hours overall?
A combination of taking classes, observing instructors, and student teaching provides the most well-rounded learning experience. All of these elements work together to support your growth and confidence as an instructor.
Does the program or education expire?
No. The Pilates Club Pro Method® education does not expire.
That said, it is strongly recommended that students remain engaged and consistent in their studies in order to:
• Integrate the material effectively
• Retain technical and teaching skills
• Complete the program in a timely and meaningful way
A focused and steady approach supports both educational quality and long-term professional success.
Can I move through the program at my own pace?
Yes. The program is designed to be primarily self-paced, with structured guidance and required in-studio components. This allows students to balance flexibility with accountability while completing a comprehensive education.
Does completing this program guarantee passage of the NCPT® exam?
Completion of the program prepares students to sit for the NCPT® exam; however, exam passage is not guaranteed and is determined solely by the NPCP.
What qualifies as an approved Pilates studio for observation or student teaching hours?
An approved Pilates studio must be a brick-and-mortar location that teaches both classical and contemporary Pilates on Pilates apparatus, including Reformer, Cadillac/Tower, and Wunda Chair,
and meets professional standards for instructor qualifications, client safety, apparatus maintenance, and ethical teaching practices.
What certification do I earn upon completion?
Graduates earn Certification in The Pilates Club Pro Method®, qualifying them to teach Pilates.
Who is this program best suited for?
The program is ideal for aspiring Pilates instructors, fitness professionals expanding credentials, career changers, and studio owners training future instructors.
What is required for the practical test-out?
After completing the curriculum, each student will create and teach a mock class. This mock class serves as the practical test-out and allows students to demonstrate exercise knowledge, sequencing, cueing, and class flow.
